At Design Miami 2012, BOOO Lab is pleased to present surface tension lamps by Front Design. Based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, BOOO is a team of experts from different fields that work in the space between avant-garde design and the consumer market. In Milan 2012, BOOO presented its first collection of LED bulbs – a light bulb that integrates the function and the aesthetics of a design lamp – created by Nacho Carbonell, Front and Studio Formafantasma. The BOOO Lab represents BOOO’s experimental projects and commissions. The gallery challenged three of the most cutting-edge design studios to reinvent, in absolute freedom, the concept of a light bulb by investigating unconventional materials and technologies. The first result of this experimentation is the Surface Tension Lamp designed by the Swedish design studio Front and produced by BOOO in an edition of twenty pieces. Despite being exclusive works the BOOO Lab represents a continuous investigation towards new and unpredictable uses of innovative technologies.

November 29 – December 4, 2011

Gallery Priveekollektie Features Designer Christien Meindertsma at Design Miami/ 2011 in the Design On/Site Program. The exhibtion is a collaborative project with t.e., the company founded by Thomas Eyck five years ago to promote the experimentation of design focused on materials first. In this exhibition, you will see the marvels Meindertsma can make with Oak. The collection on exhibit is entitled: Oak Inside. It was developed in collaboration with furniture maker Roosje Hindeloopen. Meindertsma created eight contemporary interpretations of traditional designs from Hindeloopen’s four hundred year history. The collection includes tables, chairs and cupboards. Meindertsma combines time-honored craft techniques with a new way of looking at traditional patterns and form. The result is cutting- edge furniture. After comprehensive research into the history of Hindeloopen craft, Meindertsma decided to reintroduce oak into the company’s vernacular. Using traditional techniques and by treating the wood with iron, Meindertsma created new color ranges and patterns interpretations that gave a whole new dimension to the Hindeloopen style.

Galerie Vivid from Rotterdam presents a solo exhibition by Studio Job at Design Miami

November 21st, 2011 by

Studio Job, Coffee Pot, 2011, crystal, bronze, 18.0”x15.8”x15.0” inch, unique piece, photo: R.Kot

November 29 – December 4, 2011

For the second time Galerie VIVID will present a solo presentation of Studio Job at Design Miami with “Studio Job, Containers II”. In 2010 Studio Job made ‘Piece for Peace’ in association with the world famous Belgian crystal producer Val Saint Lambert. This unique showpiece was designed for the Cabinet of Van Rompuy, President of the European Council in Brussels. During this period Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel discovered a large storage with over hundred years old, hand-blown crystal pieces that were never crafted into a product. Studio Job selected five old vessels and designed a new series of unique pieces they called ‘Containers II’: a Coffee Pot, Waste Basket, Saucepan, Picklehaube and a Stewpan on high gloss laquered pedestals. Containers II are full of paradoxes: the functional and the surreal, rich and poor, good and evil, large and small, beautiful and ugly, high culture and low pop. These Studio Job sculptures do not have to accord with our reality, their metaphorical embodiment of archetypes and iconography is a source of inspiration that revives authentic arts. Galerie VIVID is proud to introduce this important new series in Miami.
